That joint between the floor and kick panel is a vertical lap joint. The floor is flanged down to be paralell with the kick panel. They can be spot welded or plug welded thru that flanged down part of the floor. The floor and flange fits over the rocker panel there as well, so there are 3 layers of steel to weld thru.
