The manifolds often were sold as a "package": bigger camshaft, high compression pistons, dual point distributor, headers, rear gears, etc. And since the buyer already had a stock carburetor, the dual manifold was drilled for another stock carburetor. Very thoughtful to save the buyer additional money in buying two carburetors instead of just one!
