Once again the power steering question pops up! I've seen a kit offered by CPP that is earmarked for the 55-59 truck but none for a truck that has A/C. I've been following a highly creative guy that has come up with a very simple solution for the box side of the setup. Using the Toyo box and fabricating a single bracket he mounts the substantially smaller Toyo power box in basically the same location as the stock Chevy manual box. This allows you to cut your stock column, add a rag joint and make the connection.
No extended linkage with expensive Jorgenson joints or a box hung out on what appears to be an already stressed part of the frame.
I've used the Toyo boxes on numerous straight axle trucks (the other brand) for all of you who are sensative.....and they function flawlessly.
This builder has chosen to use the Toyo pump but the Saginaw pump works just as well. Check out
his PASSENGER SIDE mount. I'm currently having my new engine drilled in hopes that I can add the pump a bit higher and retain the mechanical fuel pump.
I understand that Buffalo sells a modified 250 cid 2 groove harmonic balancer that has been machined to fit the 235. If anyone has one, I'd really like to get some info on what the new dimensions might be. I really think that putting together a conversion that is reasonably priced and simpler to install would be be a great help to those who want to go that direction.
