I am concerned that this excellent discussion has not included the issue of huck brakes on the front and bendix on the rear .
I had this (briefly) on my truck . Until I had to stop quickly one day , trailer was loaded . It took some quick thinking and clever steering action to prevent a nasty jack knife and subsequent impact with the car that had turned in front of me .
Yes , the bendix twin leading shoe does "self energize" , yes the huck brakes will stop you , but the energy required at each end of the vehicle is different and subject to change with load and road surface variables .
What am I trying to say here .........
Best to keep the brake types matched , as GM designed them .
In my case I changed the front hubs to take the bendix so they matched the rears.
Rock auto have a lot of parts at good prices .
