Since the 216 era fuel was much lower octane than today, factory timing marks will likely be far too retarded for ideal performance. Once you get it started & warmed up, adjust to the fastest & smoothest idle, lock it down and readjust the idle. I time my '38 and '53 by ear. I got a lot of extra pep out of the '53 by doing that. If I'm wrong in my assessment I'm sure Jerry will let me know.
