The engine will start if you time the distributor to the BB, but you might have to tinker with things to get the best performance. There were several changes made in flywheel markings from the 216 to various years of 235. The best approach is to find the actual TDC point using the "positive stop" method, marking that spot, and using a delay-flash timing light to monitor what the actual advance is where the engine runs best. The BB is just a place to start with.
