I was told by the people at The Truck Shop in Santa Ana, CA that the style of my truck would generally be called a Rail Road Truck, several of which were built for various rail roads and/or large utility company's.
From my experience the term Coach Built is generally used to describe company's that build bodies/vehicles that are referred to as being professional vehicles,hearse's, limo's, etc., and in some cases crew cab trucks. I have several brochures that show '38-39 and 40 3 dr GMC crew cab trucks.
I find it to be very interesting that GM did not generally offer custom bodies in the crew cab style until the mid '60's. The first one I saw was a '65-66 GMC crew cab with a large slid-in camper on it.
Ford came out with the crew cab style of truck in the F100/350 line in '59 and continued with that line of trucks through their current production. Wm.
