A good 4 barrell around 500 cfm. One of the old 4GC carbs would be really good on a 283. You can often find them on ebay, but watch out; there are a bunch of different sizes.
Look at an old "Motors" motor manual and find out the specs for the hottest cam GM used in a 283, and than get one as close as you can.
Mallory dual point distributor and an Accel Super Coil with Accel wires.
Change your differential to a pos-trac around 3.42:1.
Get rid of your stock single exhaust and go with Hooker Headers dumping straight into a pair of Purple Hornies.
Paint it black with a rattle can and drive it like you're 16 and just stole it!
