Starting fluid will not harm a gasoline motor unless you try to run on it. Not a good idea on boat motors. It should only be used in an emergency in a blizzard. It is highly flammable and is in an aerosol can. Bad news.
Use a pump squirt bottle of gas. I assume you know where and how gas should be used.
The only advantage for starter fluid is you can carry it with you and it won't spill.
I use gas to clean all manner of parts, outside, no one here smokes.
