Before spending any time under the hood, I would suggest that you read Jon's "Hard Starting, Hot" section in the link below.
http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Troubleshooting.htm#HardstarthotImplementing this technique may eliminate your hard start issue, at least it is worth the try. I don't know about you, but at first I had to relearn starting/operating old vehicles with chokes and carburetors. It has become second nature now.
