In Virginia you can register original vintage plates which match the year on your title. $50.00 one time. If you don't have vintage plates, the DMV will give you generic plates which indicate "antique vehicle" No inspections. About the only restriction is that you cannot get caught driving it back and forth to work. Every other restriction can be easily sidestepped if you have your story straight. You are allowed to drive it for the sole purpose to keep it in good driving order. That's the excuse I will use if I ever get stopped. I have not been stopped for the 30 something years which I have been driving with antique plates.
