Pretty much the same in NC, but, it may be a little better in NC.
Once you have your 25+ year old vehicle registered and plates are issued to you:
- you must carry your proof of insurance
- there are no annual inspection (no inspections ever again)
- you may display/use an antique plate/plate, depending on the year of manufacture (but, NC does not "register" that plate/plates)
- you must carry the "modern" plates and registration that were issued to you, so that a police officer can go online to see a photo of your registered antique vehicle (and, a photo of you)
That might seem odd, but I do not let that bother me.
Pretty much the same in Indiana. You can run an original YOM plate that is unrestored and readable. You have a real plate that you stash somewhere. Indiana did not make a new plate in 52, 53, and maybe 54. Some say not 54 but I have a 54 "topper". You used a 51 plate and then there was a metal "topper" that went over the date on top. It took me a long time to find plates in nice condition and even longer to find the "topper" in nice shape. I like the idea that it is not restored. Mine just has a little rust on the edges. Kind of odd that in 51 Indiana must have had 2 plates because I have them both and now we have 1 plate. In Indiana bot plate numbers are on the reg. and they don't photograph your truck.
