Mine did something very similar. It was a piece of trash in the bottom of the tank. I got it out by pulling the fuel line at the carb, put on a squeeze bulb ( like from a blood pressure cuff) and GENTLY applied pressure until I heard bubbles in the gas tank. I never saw it through the top of the tank but haven't had the problem return
