They are #8-32 and yes you want to chase the holes with the tap. They come with a black finish. I had purchased the Jim Carter powder coat for the interior of my '37 and had a local shop powder coat the interior pieces (29 of them ). I didn't want to install with black screws so I bought the cheap Harbor Freight powder coat system and used the left over powder to coat the screws. They came out real nice and blend in with the rest of the interior.
