And I would suggest a modification to Jerry's suggestion in that you bore the cylinder out oversize for a standard sleeve maybe from brass, then make the new soft aluminum piston standard size. That way some folks that maybe find an NOS carb with no wear could buy the soft piston, and eliminate the issue before it happened.
