Your pic (linkage-2) in the first post is correct.
It's hitting the exhaust manifold stud/bolt because
when you installed the lever (which is correct) it was installed in the wrong position.
Remove everything and install the lever,
placing the lever end for the gas pedal (up) at about 12 o'clock.
The other end of the lever, carb end, is now
below the exhaust manifold with no interference.
Attach both rods shown in your linkage-2 pic, and you should be good to go.
Also, since you have the lever off,
I would suggest adding a bushing to the lever.
