Just what's the cotton-pickin' problem with running an AC or Fram canister filter like untold millions of stovebolts ran for decades? Virtually all of the commonly available spin-on filters do a really lousy job of cleaning up oil because the filter has to have enough of a loosely woven media to allow enough oil to pass through it to lubricate all the bearings in an engine, keep hydraulic lifters filled, etc. Bypass filters don't worry about any of those things- - - - -all they have to do is strain out as much crud as possible and dump the oil back into the pan. When spin-on against cartridge filters are compared, the choice is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.
