I want to reassure readers of my prior post that what I did was within the law here in SC. In SC, the vehicle must be ON THE PROPERTY of the business owner. It was for over 6 months and during the entire paperwork process. The shop owner had every legal right to ask the court to assign him ownership. Once the shop owner had a SC title in his name, he was free to keep it as his own or sell it.
I was guided through the entire process by a towing company that does this on a routine basis with abandoned vehicles that they tow off of someone’s property. They try to collect towing and storage fees from the owner. When the owner of the vehicle doesn’t pay the towing and storage fees, then the towing company is assigned ownership by the court using the exact same process I went through. The same towing company has also done the paperwork for the repair shop many times when people won’t pay the repair bill for their car. I’m an honest guy who did things according to the law.
