Thanks very much for the info. I think I'm going to go with the putty as it's not just pinholes but the whole surface is pitted and rough. To lead or weld a complete surface would be a little tedious and might cause warpage of the sheet metal. I believe Boyd Coddingtons body crew apply it to the whole surface of his vehicles and they sand down to the surface to give it a nice smooth finish prior to primer and paint. thanks again for the info.
