I have a ‘47 AD 3100 with a 216. Currently I have a Rochester B (manual choke) that is need of a rebuild as I can’t adjust it to idle slow to time the engine. Previously ran fine. According to Carbking the Rochester is not the most reliable/dependable. I decided to replace it with a Carter but don’t know which one.
I’ve researched the GM Heritage Center and they don’t have info on the ‘47 truck. However, it appears I may have a “ Heinz 57” type engine. Consider the following data:
Engine serial number– – – – – –none
Engine casting number– – – – – 3835849 GM 19
Head casting number– – – – – –GM 17. 3885409. Conv 13
Head number data– – – – – – – -H 3 9 (August 3, 1949?)
Intake casting number– – – – – – 3836150
So it seems I have a 1949 head on a ‘52-53 block. Since my Rochester needs rebuilding, I’d like to replace it with a Carter. But which one? One for a ‘49, ‘52,’53 or does it even matter?
Originally was told this was a ‘49 engine so Carbking said a Carter 684 was correct for that year. He mentioned there was a different linkage set up so I decided to just rebuild the Rochester.
Whew.......so I’m wondering if there is a certain model Carter that would best “fit” my unique 216?
Any help, suggestions,advice would really help.
