Did the camshaft on the splash oiler 235 have a notch in it to clear the crankshaft? If so would it still turn over at all? Can't say I've worked on one, but vaguely remember something about a notch in a cam to clear the crank. And I might be (very well could be) wrong on that.
I'm still leaning to the distributor has moved on you.
