If you plan to keep the factory mounting brackets for reattaching accessories, leave them on the frame with the factory rivets intact. If you do not plan on reusing them, grind or cut off the rivet heads and remove them. If you decide to remove items that are going to be reinstalled after the frame is painted, I suggest reattaching with grade 8 hardware, to be on the safe side.
