Well, I went ahead and swapped the starter. She fired right up without hesitation. When I look at the old starter, the gear didn't want to stay engaged when I held down the lever. I could push it back almost a 1/4" with my finger. Probably the old contact it was having with the fly wheel. I'm just fortunate that I had another starter that I just found.
