There was a post on here a while back...sounds like that because of the war, less sheetmetal was used on some fenders.
Any chance someone swapped them out in the past and put the heavier fenders your 3/4 ton? On my first truck, another half ton, I experimented with it but did not like the look. Back in the "day" I am betting that if the fenders were wrecked, a P/O might have stuck them on there to keep the truck in service...
