I am just now installing the starter on my rebuilt 283 but the the starter does not want to fit. My setup is a 1966 283, 168 tooth flywheel for a 1966 283 and SM465 4 speed bell-housing & transmission for a 1987 chevy pu. What I purchased was a starter for a 1966 283 but it would not line up due to the bell-housing so I couldn't get the starter bolts started. Should I be using the starter for a 1987 305/350 ? I am not sure of the size of motor the bell-housing & trans came off of.
