I know the gas welder would give me a cleaner weld on sheetmetal but since I couldn't afford it, I bought the Campbell Hausfeld flux core welder from Wal-Mart. I have used it to repair a rear quarter panel on a '67 Dodge Dart, repair cab corners and cowl area on '54 Chevy 3100. Now I am working on my '70 C10. I have repaired the right side floor pan and repalced the rocker panel, made a new battery tray and repaired the badly damaged radiator core support. It has done an exceptional job, just have to do some grinding to clean up the welds but I am ok with that. Since I am not an expert welder I would probably have to do the grinding anyways. Check out my link below to see some of the work.
