Double check the harmonic balancer.... does it have a bolt in the end of the crankshaft holding it on?
With the belt glazing on the tapered side it sounds like something is out of alignment. That leads me to believe the crankshaft pulley is the culprit since you have a new pump and are the generator pulley doesn't sound like its moving back and forth....
lastly, is he pulley on the generator tight? (if the fan pulley was loose it'd do it all the time)
