Back when body men actually repaired things, we had a tool that fit an air hammer to put a 1/2" wide flange onto a body panel, stepped down just enough for a patch to fit flush. It made welding patches much simpler. I've still got one stashed away somewhere, but I'd rather have a root canal without novocaine than do body work!
