I agee the location of the pump is not ideal but being in the industrial pump business for 30 years I can say the later design is more efficient as far as the pump itself goes. My running temperature has never been over 195. However I will consider the earlier pump but do they come with a 3/8 grooved pulley? I did remove the radiator mounting brackets and welded them back on to allow the radiator to drop down and move forward a bit. (a little scary on a new $500 radiator)
