I wonder if anyone who is impressed with the "cool" factor of the 348/409 engines has ever actually tried to work on one? I remember them when they were new. They're a poorly-designed P I T A to do anything beyond a tune-up on, and the performance is poor compared to either the straight valve cover big blocks or the mouse motors. Those engines were originally intended for high torque applications in medium-duty trucks, and when the supercharged 57 Ford 312's started outrunning the 283 Chevy on the drag strip, Chevy got panicky and put a 3-carb version of the 348 in the 58 Impala. It was a real dog then, and 50+ years hasn't improved it any.
