Mike,
Use penetrating oil, and a good six-sided socket, and a long breaker bar (and a bar/pipe extension, if necessary).
Maybe heat a little - be careful if you have a lot of caked grease. I have only done this when I had the backing plate apart (nothing else attached to it).
That is a large bolt - it would be hard to break/ruin the bolt.
