R and R the 4 speed in the 52 1/2 ton last weekend. Had a bearing in the trans go bad. Lots of metal in the fluid. Put in a new clutch kit from NAPA. Nice kit had everything and an alignment tool as well. Replacement trans was clean and looked to be in good shape. So in it went and off I go running errands and grinning like the idiot that just got his toy back. six days later, I hear a whirring noise as the clutch is depressed. Stopped at the light waiting my turn. It comes and goes. I think the new throw out bearing is not so good. Packaging said the bearing was lubed and sealed, so I only put a bit of grease on the shaft and the release arm tits. Did I forget something or did I just get a bad bearing? I really do not want to pull the torque tube apart and slide the tranny back out. I will of course, but I don't want to repeat any mistakes if I don't need to.
