A torquer grind is probably what later Oldsmobile people called an RV grind. An RV grind was used when Olds engines were installed in RVs and it provides more low end torque. What are you expecting to get out of your 235. There is really nothing wrong with hydraulic lifters. GM started using them in the early 50's and with a good detergent oil, they had no problems.
