I bought the truck (in the below link) a while back and put it in the gallery. I decided to finally get to it. So far I have the cab and box stripped completely. Took all the nuts, bolts, and screws and had them replated with zinc. The whole bucket cost around $25 to do. Bought some new sheetmetal for it, chrome bumpers, door and window parts. I dug out my 1974 Olds 350 Rocket and am going to put in a 200R4 transmission in it. It will have 400hp/torque plus. Going to paint it two tone black and gold. Gold on the bottom and interior, and the very top of the roof. The top (from the bottom of the hood up will be black.
Before I took out the engine, I decided to try and start it. Filed the points, fresh gas, and some new spark plugs and it started right up. The truck has only 58K miles on it.
I stuck the 238 in a 1958 truck I had that I sold the engine out of. I took the valve covers and oil pan off and pressure washed the loads of gunk out of it and reassembled. Just got it running tonight. It seems to be a nice engine.
The 1960 is in such solid shape, it will be fun to get it done to drive it.
I am starting by fitting the Olds blockand trans in place and then redo the chassis from the ground up. I think initially I will leave the stock torsion bar suspension in front with some disk brakes. I am going to leave it stock height I think. The knee knocker door frames will take a little getting used too, but it will be a cool looking truck when I am done.
Gotta figure out what to chrome and what not to chrome on the front end. I want to make sure I don't make it too gaudy.
Wish me luck.
