I don't know how tall you're, I had a '38 GMC 1.5 ton, perhaps similar to a '36 Chevy, I sold it because of lack of legroom(6'2") and got a '37 GMC T-18, which has enough leg room, installed a DD 4-53T,(approximate same length as a 5.9 Cummins), Roadranger 10 speed, Brownie OD trans for power.
For running gear, I found a P3500 school bus with 4 wheel discs, D-80 rear, solid front axle, 5/10 bolt pattern wheels which tubeless(22.5") tires are available.Saginaw power steering- thus all the running gear are designed to work together. Very satisfactory.
One also has to deal w/ the original radiator. Must figure for 16 lbs. for pressure, can't Fit a much larger radiator in the '36 shell, only way to get more capacity is go get a modern radiator w/ more cores.
You might look around for other options. Good luck.

'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires. '47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle. '54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed. '55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
