The foam is hard to control, it can do more that you think. If you get it "trapped", it can push with a lot of force. I would think about removing the braces, repairing them and rewelding them in. There is only a few spot welds at the top and a couple of beads at the bottom as I remember. I removed mine to section the cab, shorted and reinstalled them without much work at all.
