Bear, I don't know how fast you welded this but the heat from welding on such a piece can twist it into a pretzel.
I suggest you make another, the gluing is a great alternative.
I have welded on a frame trying to spread the heat around and found after welding that it is out of square a 1/4"!! Heat really has to be managed.
