Well; I'm not done yet. It starts. The fast idle is to fast. I have to figure out how to adjust that. She won't idle with the fast idle cam off until she warms up and then she seems to run fine. I fixed the water leak over the weekend but then found a fuel leak so I had to re-work some of the plumbing. (Teflon tape doesn't seem to work for fuel so I had to go to a taper fitting.) She's together now (I think) but I still have a timing issue.

Someone before I got the truck got the distributor setup wrong. She's not setup to time off of the #1 cylinder. I think it's 5 but I don't remember. I think at this point I'm going to pull the stock distributor and install my new HEI distributor. I may as well solve this problem now.

I think the heat to the intake is also part of the problem. She seems cold-blooded. I'm using Langdon's water heating system. It seems like heat isn't getting there fast enough. I wonder if exhaust heat is a better solution. I've been talking to people about possibly installing an EGR valve between the header and intake. What do you think?

I'm also working on the shifter lever. It's been freezing up where the lever transitions to the shaft. I thought it may be the shifter box but I took that apart; cleaned it up, and put it back together. It was fine. I've now disassembled the upper piece and I'm trying to decide if I want to paint the steering column before putting it back together.

This thing is like Pandora's Box. Every time I open something a bunch of other stuff jump out. It's amazing how much work a 18,000 48 year old truck needs.

Later,

Jerry
