I remove the springs and the outer hinge bolts.
I line up the rear of the hood for proper spacing at the cowl with the inner hinge bolts snug, but movable.
I then lift the the front of the hood enough to place a 4X4 block between the nose of the hood and the hood latch.
I then place a 16 inch length of railroad track on the rear of the hood to force it down on the cowl, and tighten the inner hinge bolts. (I believe that this step is the key to make it fit right.)
