I was driving my Dads 50 (my 50 now) to my girlfriend Rochelle's house

Just in front of the Stop and Go on Atlantic avenue a car pulls out in front of me. Probably a pinto.

I jump on the brakes , white knuckled and all.....Nothing...pedal to the floor.
Quickly, like Mannix chasing a dope dealer I pull right with all I had,
barely missing the rear of the Pinto.

Some how I avoided the crash

Made it to Rochelle's house.....,
her moms answers the door
She looks at me and ask....

"Did you just see a ghost"

I used the P.O.L. Kit

And this of course will happen again (truck without brakes) without proper maintenance. Your post gives one the impression that the brakes failed, ergo, I changed the brakes for the better.
