GP, a shim "pack" to me simply means a number of shims of differing thicknesses that you pick and choose what you need to get to the final proper clearances. You cant simply assume you need x, y, and Z thickness shims. You have to shim the pinion bearing to proper clearance and each axle setup is different to some degree.
Patrick's tells you that his gears are setup so that you probably have to add X thickness shim to the factory stack as a starting point, but must check clearances and add/subtract as necessary. It's a painstaking process, but absolutely necessary.
