Tom, Could you post some pics of the camshaft
and lifters ?
I'm sure a lot of folks here would
like to see exactly what happened.

Your original cam was forged steel
so, the distributor drive gear was
hardened steel to MATCH the original
forged steel camshaft.

Any new camshaft you buy will be a CAST cam.

So, a new distributor gear made for
CAST camshafts will be needed.

How did the rod & main bearings look ?

How about the insides of the oil pump ?

That was a lot of camshaft lobe metal
floating around the insides of your engine.
