I finally woke-up the 261 and now it is amazing how it runs. really sounds great. new valves, fuel pump, carburator rebuild, radiator hoses, battery,..., and new green paint on the head and valve cover.
next challenge: While running, I tried putting in reverse and letting out the clutch slow--it was like the hand brake was on and it died. tried again, same thing. I did not want to try forward, incase I could not get it back under the carport. This is a 6400 2-ton and has a hand brake as part of the drive shaft--the hand brake was off. The flat bed is a tip-bed with a PTO--that worked great.
about a year ago, I had it towed to the house with the drive shaft disconnected and the front wheels raised--although I don't think so, could there be a frozen wheel bearing?
the transmission shifts smoothly. one thing about the drive shaft brake--there is a shoe on the inside (which is released), is there suppose to be a metal pad on the outside of the drum also?
