Peter,
If you have the original 1954 gauge clusters, there is no ignition indicator (except for the Ammeter, perhaps).
That lower socket location was used in 1954, if you had a RPO or GM accessory turn signal set-up. If there was no 54 GM directional indicator on your truck, that bulb socket was not used (until now - go ahead, use it).
