Petmil, on my 53 I put a toggle switch under the dash with a beeper, push switch to left for left turn and to right for right turn. I think I got this from Jim Carter, designed especially for this application. It comes with the toggle switch, beeper and instructions.
I did this rather than having that ugly after market turn signal switch clamped to the steering column. It is a much cleaner look. The signals are connected to my parking lights (front and rear) rather than adding new ones for turn signals.
