Details for the Southern Stovebolters Fall GABfest in Georgia -- October 5 & 6

We are sending out group emails for this event. If you'd like to be included in the distribution, please just send me an email. brad56@windstream.net

I run the NE Georgia Swap Meet, which is held the first Saturday of every month at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. It's a morning affair. Vendor set-up is 7 am; gates open to the public at 8:30. The swap meet itself usually wraps up between 1 and 2pm.

We will begin the Southern Stovebolt Fall GABfest on Friday, October 5 about 20 miles south of the track. Year One is a resto parts supplier. They will be giving us a tour of the place. Year One has a Chevy Truck catalog, so it fits with our market. They have a pretty decent-sized warehouse full of parts. They've been involved in a lot of movies, TV shows and magazine projects, and have a pretty good collection of hot rods in the back. They also have a hot rod shop with several projects going on at any given time. The tour is set (confirm on Monday 10/1) up for Friday. We need to meet in their parking lot in Braselton, Georgia at 3 pm. The tour will probably take an hour, which should give everyone plenty of time to comfortably get to their hotels. We'll go to dinner afterwards.

The second leg of the GABfest will be at the Swap Meet. Any 'Bolters get in for free. We'll set up together and display our trucks, hang out, find some treasures, sell anything if you've got it to sell.

FYI - across the street is the Tanger Outlet shopping center, so the fairer among us could also do a little shopping.

Another FYI - about 30 miles down the road is Chateau Elan, a winery, day spa and high-end hotel with a lot of nice amenities.

Finally, we'll end our event with a cruise to the scenic destination of Helen, Georgia. It's about an hour drive from the track (and hotels is in Commerce -- see Dan's write up below). It's a beautiful drive through the hills of Georgia on country / state highways. Helen, located in the Georgia mountains, is having their Octoberfest the whole month. The town of Helen has a Swiss / German Alps influence, with all the buildings looking the part, several restaurants and lots of gift and antique shops.

There's a very nice campground called Victoria Bryant, for those who are interested.

Dan Norris took care of the hotel info:

Announcing the Official 2012 Commerce Georgia Gabfest Hotel! Brad asked me to post information about the Best Western Hotel at 157 Eisenhower Drive in Commerce. Stovebolters can make reservations for Oct. 5 and/or 6 for $52.99 for a room with two queen size beds, or a king size bed. The hotel serves a free breakfast, provides free WIFI, accepts pets, has smoking and non smoking rooms, has a swimming pool and exercise room. There are several very nice restaurants in walking distance of the Hotel, including a Cracker Barrel. We are free to park our trailers,(if we haul trucks to Commerce), on the access road to the hotel, or on the drive way that circles around the pool. If you are coming on Friday, and want to stay over for the Flee Market and tour to Helen on Saturday, you can call 706 335 3640 for reservations. Just be sure to tell them you are with the Stovebolt group to get the discounted room rate.

I'm going to stay there Friday night. Fire off a post here if you are making reservations so we can get together for dinner or what ever.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

OK, I'm slow. I keep clicking on the link for
"details" and I don't see the time.

I won't be able to make the Friday tour, but do need to know what time to show up on Saturday.

Thanks!

Vendor set-up is 7am, gates open to the public at 8:30.
The swap meet itself usually wraps up between 1 and 2pm.

I'll need to run home, unload the Suburban (hey... it's a truck, isn't it? Just because it's 50 years old doesn't mean it can't be used!!!), grab a shower and some caffeine, and then meet up at the hotel for the drive to Helen.

I'll post an itenarary here, and send one to everyone on the mailing list next week before Thursday.

If anyone hasn't signed up for the mailing list, please send me your email address; send it to brad56@windstream.net

Will you be going over to Braselton Friday afternoon? If you are going over from the hotel, we could ride together. Not sure I want to drive the 51 over there if I'm driving by myself. It's a 45 minute ride if we stay off the Interstate....20 minutes on I 85. Dave

Looks like y'all are getting a nice line up of folks! I will post this as a global announcement for a day or so in case some folks don't look past the Restoration section of the forums.
