I was alerted to this rear valance for the surburbans/panels. It looks different from the original one off my 52panel.
Is it safe to say that its not the same....? I had thought 47-53 were the same but can't remember.
Whats the scoop here. It is definitely different from mine...

1947-55 are the same on all 1/2 ton and 1 ton panel-body trucks. That one does not look right: wrong number-of and style-of hangers; wrong lip/edge on front and back; and, wrong slots for the bumper brackets. The original has a turned up lip/slot on the bumper side to allow a rubber dust-seal to be placed/glued/pinched into the slot

It is quite odd that no-one makes the correct rear valance/shield in metal. It would fit all 47-55 GMC and Chevrolet panel-body trucks.

Tim, I remembered you answered that question for me not to long ago. I just posted it here for others to see in case it IS what someone is looking for. Just as info I ended up buying a fiberglass at JimCarters while in Kansas at the reunion. With stovebolt discount and no shipping I got out for around $83 and it included the correct fiberglass brackets. Now I can quite looking, get it painted and install my bumper brackets and bumper.

I contacted the seller earlier today and politely described why that was not a 47-55 rear valance/shield. I let the seller know that if someone bought it to use on a 47-55 GM panel-body truck, they would be disappointed. I have received no response and the listing has not been changed.

I also told the seller that the part would probably be quite valuable if he could determine what vehicle it fits.

i bought a fiberglass one a few years back and am really happy with it. They dont come with the "lip" to hold the rubber seal but other than that,fit quite well. For the 75.00 i paid for it back then,its been a good deal all the way around.
Ive got some other wrinkled,used orig. ones and for what it would cost to fix them,the fiberglass one is just fine for this particular truck.(suburban)
But, back to the orig. subject that e-bay piece isnt an NOS G.M. part from the looks of it.

I am using a fiberglas one from Jim Carter ($65 about 8 years ago). It has an indented edge for the "lip" and after I glued the seal in that "lip", you would not know it is not correct (unless you tap on it). I did have to re-drill several of the holes on the inner edge.

Tim, unfortunately JimC must have changed vendors. My fiberglass does NOT have the lip/indentation you mention and what is on my old bent and twisted original!! You were lucky!

Marty, did you still glue the lip to the "straight" edge of the fiberglass one or just leave it off???

It'll be a few weeeks before I get to mine as other stuff is pressing but I'd like your input on the seal.
