My story starts 50 years ago. At the time I was 15 years old. My father, who was the Chevrolet Dealer in Millinocket, Maine instructed me to take that old 1946 Chevrolet pickup truck and go up to his house and clean out the garage. If I remember correctly, the price of the truck was $295.00, which was a substantial amount of money at the time.

Over the years, I remember seeing the truck around town, however, I didn't get to drive it again until 1974, at which time I bought it from a friend who had it sitting in his yard, more or less setting in a mud hole. I asked him if he wanted to sell it, and his reply was, "everything is for sale, provided the price is right." With this for an answer, I prepared myself for a rude awakening. His price was $100.00, and I towed it home.

This is the picture of me and the truck after I repaired the rust and painted it for the first time. The year was 1974, and I was 30 years old. The fenders were original and the running boards are also original. When I stared sanding all the old paint off, lettering came out on the doors. This truck was sold to Monhegan Market in 1946, by my father. I didn't know this when I bought the truck, however, it made the truck more of a keepsake.

It is now 35years since I bought the truck, I have been the Chevrolet Dealer in Millinocket since 1980. I still own the truck, all my children learned to drive a standard shift on this truck, and I still drive it down to my camp and around town for kicks.

I'm now 65 years old, and the truck turned 63 years old this October.

I have had my truck for 37 years and I am 60 so I have to relate to your story. My truck did not come from my father's dealership, it was Studebaker, but I remember he had an ad in the newspaper "2 Chevy trucks, 1946, your choice for $100".

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
