Also the rear bumper on my 49 sub has a hole torched in the center of it by an unknown PO probably for a trailer hitch. Can this hole be repaired by welding in a patch with no adverse affect on the integrity of the bumper? If the bumpers are not the same I would like to rechrome the original after fixing the hole. The rear bumper brackets for Panel Body trucks are different from pickup trucks; and, the rear bumper brackets are different from the front bumper brackets.

I have done some research over the years and I found that the rear bumpers on the burbs & panels are NOT identical to the front bumpers.
They are rounded on the ends like a front bumper but when you lay an ORIGINAL burb or panel rear bumper next to a front bumper you can see that they do not have as much of an arc.

My 53 half ton panel had a heavy, thick rear bumper. It was quite different from the front. Maybe a PO put a bumper on from a big bolt? I acquired a front bumper off a pickup to replace it with. Bill I have found the same information in two dif master parts as Bill and both my burb bumpers front & rear lay right together. Mike | | |
