Like you I can't think GM redesign to much when they added the door for recirculating to the heaters in 1953-55 1st... all cases are same on back side. Not quite correct. The new style heater has the tubes slightly staggered and the old style has them pretty much in line with each other. The tanks on the old style are taller and the mounting provisions different. pics on the jim carter site are of the exact same core.
